The ‘Real’ War

By Tim Tuohy I suppose it is the fate of a writer to be awake in the middle of the night when the muse hits him and demands his attention at the keyboard. What is amazing is that so much quality work is turned out in the hours when every one else is asleep. (I dont presume to count my own work in that group!) I sit here striving to find the words to convey a thought and to do so in such a manner as would give a complete understanding to the reader. Every writer knows that there is little chance that the article you write will be understood completely in the spirit in which it was written let alone that the thought will be truly and completely transmitted. Still, here I go again. A friend of mine returned from Iraq today, or at least this is the first time I have seen him since he got back. I didnt have time to debrief him and, as a veteran myself, I know he doesnt want to rehash his life of the last year and several months that he spent there in the desert fighting insurgents. What he said to me took me totally by surprise and that is the reason I sit here writing. Like every self-respecting web resident, that is everyone who has a presence on the web (great or small), I have an email campaign to pass along humor, proverbs and warnings. A few weeks ago I sent out a copy of an article by Joel Rosenberg (http://www.joelrosenberg.com/) titled REMARKABLY GOOD NEWS FROM IRAQ. In this article Joel discusses the religious freedoms that are springing forth in Iraq as a result of the American forces there. This soldier, back from the front, looked at me and thanked me for sending out that email. Suddenly, I am reminded of the words of Paul, We wrestle not Soldiers are fighting and people are dieing but God is working in the middle of it. This is not a commentary on whether we should be there or not. Having read the Koran, I remain unconvinced that the Islamic people are peacefully co-existent with other religious beliefs. In fact, I am unconvinced Christians can peacefully coexist with other religions. However, I am not talking about religion. I am not talking about the beliefs men hold in the minds and hearts about whatever it is they believe. For each man these is substantially different even when they profess to agree! All one needs do is compare the various Christian denominational statements of faith to determine that Christians are not all on the same page. No, this article is not about the religious beliefs of Christians or Muslims, but it is about Gods will for His children. Isnt it remarkable that while the entire world squabbles about whats right and whats wrong and if we should fight this war or not, God is quietly working in the region. In the end isnt that what is really going on? Isnt it the events of the Spirit world that govern the events of the physical world? There is more going on that bullets and bombs. The redeemer is at work in the field and the harvest is coming in. Tim Tuohy is a senior designer for mainframe systems at one of this country’s largest railroads. Four Super-Deadly Marketing Sins – And How To Fix Them

By Adam Urbanski It seems nowadays every marketing guru and their brother-in-law has a deadly sins and how to fix them book, ebook or at least an article! But apparently nobody is reading this stuff! How do I know? Because nine out of every ten businesses continue making the same marketing goof-ups. The most amazing part is they are convinced their marketing is great and their phone will be ringing off the hook any moment now! Time for a reality check! Are you guilty of these four marketing sins? Find out how to fix it! Deadly Marketing Sin #1 Not Standing Out From Your Competitors You want to be one in a million not one of the million. In the marketing jargon its called a Unique Selling Proposition (USP). I call it a HUB Hot Undeniable Benefit of doing business with you. Your HUB sets you apart from the crowd. It tells your customers why you are special. And it answers the question your customers are asking themselves, which is: “Why should I do business with you versus anyone else?” So how do you go about discovering your HUB? Do you know what makes you different from others offering similar product or service? The more competitive your industry the more important it is to emphasize even the smallest differences. Do you cater to a specific group of people? Are you better than others in addressing a specific issue? Do you guarantee your work? How about the one thing no one can duplicate – what makes you you? If you cant find anything unique right now, look for unresolved problems in your industry and become an expert in providing a solution to them. Here is good example. Youve heard of a small parcel delivery company called FEDEX, right? Do you know their USP? Its: “When you absolutely, positively need it overnight. Guaranteed.” Funny thing is they are no longer the only company doing it but they offered it first. Discover your HUB, articulate it in all your marketing messages and watch your results soar. Deadly Marketing Sin #2 Assuming Your Customers Know As Much About Your Business As You Do Small business owners are a very special breed we walk, talk, breathe, eat and sleep thinking about our business. Listen, just because you think about your business all the time doesnt mean your customers do the same! Fact is, I can count on one hand the businesses I became exposed to in the last twelve months that didnt fail to educate their customers on how they solve their problems and meet their needs and wants. Your customers don’t really buy products and services. They buy SOLUTIONS to their problems. Use articles, presentations and case studies to educate them about WHAT you do, HOW it works and WHY its the only logical solution to their problems. And dont just do it once. Frankly, if you dont have a way to consistently and automatically keep in touch with prospects, customers, centers of influence and strategic partners you are missing the boat! Deadly Marketing Sin #3 Wasting Time and Money On Marketing Strategies That Dont Work! Do you know which of your marketing efforts result in new business? Do you ever calculate the time, money and effort it takes to get a new customer from each promotional strategy you use? Why? Because if it is working you want to do use it more often! And if it isnt – you need to stop wasting your money! Case in point; most professionals believe that networking is the best way to get new business. And it can be – but not always and not for everyone. Find out for yourself. Add up the amount of time you spent networking last month. Put a dollar value on it based on your fees. Add the actual price you paid to attend those events. Then divide this total amount by the number of new customers your networking produced. Are you happy with your results? Or is it a shock to see what it actually costs to get new clients by networking? It doesnt matter if its networking, advertising, referral or joint venture strategies if you dont know your ROME (Return On Marketing Efforts) I guarantee you are wasting money doing things that dont work! Every marketing strategy can be tracked and measured. So figure out what works best for you! Deadly Marketing Sin #4 Missing Out On Repeat Business Youve heard about the back-end-sales, havent you? Are you doing it? Its astonishing how many small business owners do not develop strong relationships with their customers and have no plan for generating repeat business. You see, one of your biggest costs of doing business is marketing and getting new customers into your funnel. And once youve done a great job for them, and then you nurture the relationship youve developed, its so easy to ask for more business. But you have to develop different levels of products and services to offer to them. Listen to your clients and develop new offerings to respond to their needs. Create assessments to uncover hidden opportunities for additional projects. If you cant or dont want to offer those new solutions partner up with someone who does. McDonalds made a fortune on supersizing their fries time for you to start thinking about supersizing your business with each client. Bottom line is this: when I hear businesses talk about bad economy, clients not having money and overall complaining about how tough it is to make a sale I can always pinpoint their poor performance to at least one of those marketing sins. Frankly, there is no such a thing as a shortage of business there is a shortage of knowledge how to get that business. (c) 2004 Adam M. Lead Type Values (for non-instore sales)

By Daniel Wadleigh If you want to sell a product, you must get in front of potential customers. This is accomplished by generating leads. Leads can be generated in all sorts of ways, and different methods produce different relative close ratios. There are basically two major kinds of leads: you go to them, or they come to you! The “they come to you” type of lead usually has a much higher close rate than the other. The reason for this is that the ones who come to you are predisposed to at least investigate, and have taken action – completely of their own volition. This kind of lead, assuming the potential customer is able to acquire your product or service, is usually above 50% in closing potential. The lead generation techniques and their relative close rates for professional sales people are as follows: 1. Referral – a lead from a happy customer 85% 2. Broad-base advertising response 65% 3. Home Shows 30% 4. Direct Mail 5% 5. Telemarketing (depending upon pre-qualification) 30-40% The first three sources of leads represent the customer being predisposed, originally instigating the action to inquire, and most likely a good candidate for the application. Part of the lower rates for direct mail, telemarketing and home shows is related to the ability of the potential customer to buy and the validity of his use of the product or service. Besides the obvious, that milking referral leads is a golden opportunity, there is more to this than meets the eye. To run a managed lead generating/sales program, it takes more than raw money and “trying something.” As previously described, you have to get past break-even in cash slow, ASAP. Therefore, within your means, you should consider trying most of the lead generation techniques and monitoring the number of leads, the number of sales and thus determining the cost-per-sale of each generating device. There are a lot of variables involved in each of the types of lead generating devices. Some forms will obviously be more profitable in different exterior climates (bearing in mind that want, need and fear are the buying motives). In troubled economic times, referrals and direct mail should control the flow of leads. In times of any shortage (fear), media advertising (positioning) will suffice. Besides developing referrals, which lead source is best suited for your business. After testing, monitor, adapt and continue monitoring. If They’re Not Coming to You… You get phone calls or visits when people have decided to act. They may not all buy, but at least they’re kicking the tires. You also get phone calls and visits when people respond to an ad of yours. Again, they may not buy, but they have responded. These are both times in which they took the initiative to do something. The first scenario may will be a sale for someone, if not you. The second situation is also a possible sale, for someone. The first scenario is one in which you really have no control. These calls or visits represent unexpected but hoped-for business. The second situation is one with a little more control in it, but still does not have a very high success rate. There is a third choice. This scenario is the vast number of potential customers out there who have been “thinking about it” but haven’t been motivated enough to spend time, effort and money. Direct response marketing says, “I’m asking you to make a decision.” This is by far the lowest close rate, but it is predictable and profitable! The first step is to entice them, when they weren’t really looking for it, to make a decision. This can be done through drawings, contests and other kinds of give-always that cause them to come by, call in, or stop and fill in a coupon. As part of the whole promotion event, you get them re-exposed to your product line. But, they were not predisposed to considering this, so you need to have an enticing reward for their attention and time. For example, have you ever gone to a free dinner to get pitched about a “timeshare”, or to learn about the Internet? Can you imagine how many magazine subscriptions Publisher’s Clearinghouse sells to give away $10 million? And remember, Ed McMahon doesn’t work for free, either! Sky and Virgin Television – A Disgraceful Episode That…

By Paul Ashby …exposes “Top Down” management at its worst! So Sky & Virgin, you obviously dont think that you ought to start a regular dialogue with your subscribers! Because the disgraceful public row you both have had very recently provides enough evidence that you really still havent got it. Your advertisers are not that important to you, certainly your very own Top Management is not important to you, after all they are in the process of ruining your business! As they said in a recent American Presidential ElectionIts your viewers stupid. This headline says it all. Sky channels disappear from Virgin cable TV. And, low and behold, in the day when viewer/consumer empowerment is causing great concern to the advertising/media industries. These companies decide, arbitrarily, to remove Skys basic channels from Virgins cable platform in the early hours of yesterday morning after an extended and unedifying public spat between BSkyB and Virgin Media Obviously they havent heard the word empowerment! Empowerment is a very overused word. However in the near future the primary strategic marketing communications battle will be to see who goes furthest in empowering their customers, and this little spat between BSkyB and Virgin Media confirms that the Top Down Management in these companies prefer the words Just do as we tell you. So OK BSkyB and Virgin Media here is your first lesson in empowerment To empower your customers you will have to: 1. Provide them with far more information than you currently do. 2. Allow them to make decisions about you and your company together with your resources. 3. Give them plenty of choice. 4. Give them the perception of control! 5. Allow them to feel that they are running your organisation! Because anything that tightens your relationships with an existing customer increases the revenue you get from your customer. And the only form of communication that can do all the above so that you do tighten your grip on your customer is. Interactive communication! Here is your second lesson BSkyB and Virgin Media and this time it is on the meaning of Communication, which again you dont obviously understand! After a little thought, most people come up with a definition that is about transmitting and receiving information. A little more thought might produce the word exchange. This is more satisfactory, but still assumes that communication is about moving something about conveying, or sending, or delivering, some commodity called information. In fact, the word has quite a different root meaning. It derives from the Latin communis, meaning common. Or shared. It belongs to the family of words that includes communion, communism and community. Until you have shared information with another person, you havent communicated it. And until they have understood it, the way you understand it, you havent shared it with them. Communication is the process of creating shared understanding. There is nothing shared about this little gem from yesterdays press, Virgin cable customers will now be unable to watch Sky One which carries popular shows such as Lost, 24, The Simpsons and Battlestar Galactica. Virgin was paying Sky approximately 60p per subscriber per month for the affected channels. It then charged its subscribers from 11 per month. Some pompous person from Virgin Media had this to say, which I dont believe for one moment, after all you can prove anything with research! Simply listen to this little gem! We have carried out customer research and a clear majority would rather we reinvested our money to give them a richer content package, he said. We have been constantly enriching the Virgin media experience for the last six months. Perhaps the reason for this hanging on to the past way of doing things is the persistence of mass media, which came about as a result of the needs of business as a way of reaching mass markets. Like the management of large corporations, broadcast advertising partakes of the same top-down style of command and control. Customers were told what to do shop hard but not asked in any substantive way for their input or opinions! And, sad to say, command and control remains the order of the day. There is much talk today these days about the empowerment of consumers although corporations still communicate their demands by broadcasting them to demographically determined abstractions of whom they know very little about and have no genuine relations with at all. IS IT ANY WONDER THAT CUSTOMERS ARE MOVING AWAY FROM OLD MEDIA AND MOVING TO THE WEB! The Author pioneered interactive communication to the advertising and marketing communities some twenty-five years ago. The communication issues he addresses have been neglected during the explosive grown of advertising in the 60s, 70s and 80s, these are Cognitive Dissonance, Selective Retention and Selective Exposure. Would you like to discover the incredible results to be attained by using interactive communication? Well these are revealed for FREE at http://effectiveaccountablecommunication.blogspot.com or contact Paul directly on paul.ashby@yahoo.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Paul_Ashby http://EzineArticles.com/?Sky-and–Virgin-Television—A-Disgraceful-Episode-That…&id=474956 smart choice payday cash advance christmas instant cash advance loan changing deductions to get more money in paycheck personal unsecured loan

Fast Cash No Credit Check Personal Loans – Convenient When Financially Strapped

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carrie_Reeder]Carrie Reeder Not having enough money to cover necessary expenses can create a huge burden. If financially strapped, there are ways to obtain quick cash. Ordinarily, people get loans from family or friends. Yet, there is an easier solution. Cash advance personal loans make it possible to get up to $1500 within minutes. What are Cash Advance Personal Loans? Cash advance loans are very similar to personal bank loans. However, obtaining these loans is much easier because payday or cash advance companies have few lending requirements. Different from banks and credit unions which habitually decline loan applications, cash advance companies approve most applicants. As long as you meet the minimum requirements, you can have your cash within an hour. Who Qualifies for a Cash Advance Personal Loan? Getting approved for a fast cash personal loan is easier than obtaining other types of credit. Prior to approving a loan or credit application, most lenders will pull your credit report, review credit score, and ensure that you have ample collateral. This is time consuming. Moreover, few people are able to meet a banks requirement. On the other hand, cash advance lenders will approve anyone with steady employment, checking or savings account, and adequate monthly income. Furthermore, all applicants must be at least 18-years-old and have no previous outstanding cash advance loans. Also, most people are attracted to cash advance personal loans because these lenders do not require good credit or collateral. Hence, it is possible to acquire quick cash with bad credit or no credit history. How do Cash Advance Lenders Work? Getting cash is simple. You have the option of visiting a local cash advance storefront, or completing an online application. Using online lenders is more convenient. Moreover, the internet allows you to compare various lenders before submitting an application. Hence, you have the option of selecting the lender with the lowest fees and best loan terms. After submitting an application, you may be asked to fax copies of certain documents. These may include copies of drivers license, banking information, paycheck stubs, etc. The lender will verify all stated information. You can expect a response within the hour. Once your loan request is approved, the funds are directly deposited into your checking or savings account by the next business day. Latest Mobile Phones Combine Style And Technology To Create Little Fashion Icons

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Andrew_Regan]Andrew Regan Pay-as-u-go, contract, G3, two or three mega pixel camera, Orange, Vodaphone, O2, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, the choices seem endless, even before the potential buyer gets to actually choose the model of phone they want. Today the mobile phone is more about lifestyles than simply about making phone calls. The way that a mobile phone unit looks is key to many buyers, which is why there are so many differently styled models available, frequently offered in a number of different colours, or with optional extras such as a range of cases to modify and personalize the phone to suite the users tastes. The size of the phone is also a major means for deciding what mobile to choose. Manufacturers are currently fighting to produce the thinnest, lightest or smallest phones available to meet consumer demands. The current cream of the crop is the Samsung X820, which weighs in at a mere 66 grams, making it one of the lightest mobile phones around, and at only 6.9mm thick is the slimmest handset in the world to date! The X820 also comes packed with all the features such as MP3 player, bluetooth, 2MP camera, EDGE and email. For users looking for a compact mobile that is easy to easy to carry around, but has all the functions of the larger phones, then the Samsung E370 is ideal. This tiny little number is just 86mm tall and 43.1mm wide, and weighs in at just 86g but still comes with bluetooth, music player, camera, video, GPRS, EDGE, Email and WAP! To make the most of the stylish looks, many current phones manufacturers have started to use a sliding display to ensure a compact design which doesnt compromise the ergonomic ease of use for the keyboard, or the size of the colour screen. These sliders not only look great, like the hyper cool LG KG 800 Chocolate, but they also tend to be slightly sturdier than the more traditional flip type phones. This is not to denigrate flip phones, as they have advanced rapidly in recent years, and with incredibly chic designs like the Sony Ericsson W300i, Motorola V3X, Samsung E870, Samsung E770 or LG U300 Chameleon, it is easy to see why these have become the must have fashion icons of our current age. For anyone who must have the latest in gadgets and technology, then there is always a wide and ever evolving range to choose from. Amongst the best currently widely available are the Nokia N80 and the Motorola V3X which both provide their user with increased data transfer speeds thanks to GPRS, quadband, EDGE and 3G, alongside a host of other functions. The pay tariff also represents the lifestyle of the user, with specific payment schemes set up for those who constantly communicate by text, are always continuously chatting on their mobile all the time, surf using WAP or the internet, or constantly send and receive video or pictures with others, as well as pay-as-u-go schemes for people who rarely use their phones but still need to remain in contact. Which network and phone [http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/besttariff.aspx ]tariff scheme is best for the users own needs, is partly based on the offers available at the time, but also on what network friends and family members are on already. Choose the wrong network and many friends may not call as often due to the increased inter-network costs. Fashion trends have taken over the mobile phone world. Buy the wrong phone or join the wrong network provider and it is possible to get shunned, but get the right mobile on the correct network and the phone can become a great talking point, and allow the user increased freedom and a host of incredibly useful extras like an MP3 player, mobile internet access, high quality camera, portable video player, games, even document readers and packages to allow work to be completed outside the office. The mobile has become so much more than just a phone, it has come to symbolize and shape our modern age and the way we live our lives. The Date Ends-10 Good Tips for You

By Alex Carter 1. The best possible way that the date ends is by you and your date expressing your enjoyment of the evening. Not all dates end this way, but those that do are inevitably going to stick in your mind so don’t be afraid to tell your date these things as the date ends. 2. A really good date is the type of date that ends with you and your date scheduling the next date right then and there to ensure it moves along swimmingly. Don’t be too shy to ask and don’t think it a failure if it doesn’t happen either, but a really good date is the date that ends in this fashion. 3. A good way the date ends is NOT telling them that you like them when you really don’t and see no future. Nobody wants to be strung along in a dead relationship, so use the golden rule and treat others as you wish they would treat you! 4. If you feel like you are on a date where you are the more interested one, then don’t push too much for a commitment for further dates as the date ends. Let the other party decide where this goes and if they are open for something more, be relaxed and easy-going in your agreement. 5. As the date ends, in good or bad fashion, make sure that you are aware of the other person’s arrangements for getting home or to their next destination. If they must call a cab or friend to pick them up, stay to make sure they depart safely, or if you must be the transportation do it without any reference to the date’s success, you both agreed and both must see it to the end. 6. When the date ends don’t be too antsy or over eager to establish something for the future if it doesn’t seem possible at the time. If you have one-another’s email addresses or phone numbers then rely on them to get in contact, other than that, let things happen as they may! 7. Do NOT rely on instinct and offer a friendship if the first date doesn’t go well and you are simply trying to end it. This isn’t exactly offensive, but it is almost insulting as we all know that isn’t why you started the date. It is the dating equivalent of trying out for the football team and the coach saying, “you’d be a great secretary”, it is a compliment but not what you were looking for. 8. If the date ends as you are laughing or trying to break a seemingly endless conversation then you likely had a great date. This is a great way for the date to end as you are doing what show business calls “showmanship” or, in other words, leaving them wanting more. 9. If the date ends as you are leaving a courthouse, jailhouse, or waffle house then it may NOT have been a very “good” date. While the Waffle House may be debatable (as they have delicious waffles, no doubt), leaving from anywhere dealing with the law may be a problem! 10. If the date ends as you are angry or frustrated then you did not just have a very good date. No date should end this way and all dates that end this way shouldn’t be considered for future romance. If you can’t find a way to get along with your entire life stories to catch up on, then you really won’t have anything to talk about later! Wholesale Party Favors

By Ken Marlborough Many hosts consider the gifting of party favors as an ideal gesture to convey gratitude to guests attending events or parties. Irrespective of the nature of celebration such as a wedding, anniversary, birthday, holiday affair, baby shower, or a corporate get-together, there is always a party favor that suits the occasion. Many companies manufacture items that are meant for usage as party favors, such as candle holders, cake toppers, bags, pens, watches and cookies. They also offer wholesale rates on party favors to retailers who purchase them in large quantities. Party favors are available in varying styles and budgets and to match the theme of different occasions. While birthday party favors may include mini candy gumball machines, poodle coin purses, cartoon character watches or friendship bands; anniversary party favors include items such as picture frame or purses. There are many branded as well as local companies that manufacture articles such as the above and offer discount rates on bulk purchases. Party favors at wholesale prices are available in items that compliment different theme parties such as cartoons, Hawaiian, sports, princess and dress-up, pirate or a candle party. Setting Up Boundaries in Relationships

By Stephanie Manley Setting up personal boundaries is important in all types of relationships, but in intimate ones, it is all the more important. As with the closer the relationship will become it is easier for those lines to blur. You may ask yourself what is a boundary and why setting, or recognizing them do for me. Boundaries are personal limits we have with other people emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Often we already have these built-in, but sadly we often ignore them because we were taught to be nice to everyone, or that our desire to be in a relationship may outweigh how we behave. There are at least three different categories of boundaries: physical, emotional, and spiritual. The easiest to understand is the physical boundary, as we experience this one literally on a daily basis. Think of this has if someone is standing too close to you, and how that makes you recoil inside slightly. If you were to apply this to a relationship or someone you may be dating it may take place in terms of a forced physical intimacy before you are ready. Often when these initially happen we get an uncomfortable feeling, it can be a shortness of breath, a sense of being violated, or something like a sinking feeling in your stomach. These are all signs our boundaries are working, and we need to pay attention to them. Emotional boundaries can impact us in every day life as well. These typically take place in situations where we know the other person. This can be something like a co-worker making an emotional appeal for you to by trash bags for their child for fundraising. This can be our potential dating partner trying to force emotional intimacy through revealing too much about themselves, or asking us to do the same for them. A violation of an emotional boundary could be a potential mate trying to secure a commitment in a relationship before we are ready. Once again if we feel uncomfortable when these things happen, its time to pay attention, and ask ourselves what is making us feel this way. Spiritual boundary violations can be very devastating. A very easy example of this may be when a child seeks approval from a parent for something they have done, and then that child is met with criticism. These violations tend to run deeper than an emotional one since they feel like an attack on us. This could be a partner making an overly harsh comment, or if someone is putting someone else down and making you feel uncomfortable. When these transgressions happen you should take note, other people should not make you feel bad, and attacks on the spirit can be difficult to get over. When your boundaries are violated, you often have a negative reaction and my not know why. Learning about where your personal limits are is a wonderful way for you to set expectations in a relationship, and learn about yourself. There is no better time for you to do this than before a relationship starts, or in beginning of a relationship. Re-setting your boundaries in older relationships is possible, but it will come with a longer adjustment period. Take time to establish what your personal expectations are, so you are always comfortable in your relationships.
